D.W. Wilburn served as general contractor for both phases of the construction of the new Business & Technology Center, including the new Center for Performing Arts, at Eastern Kentucky University. The project was the result of a unique, collaborative planning and funding effort between the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University, the City of Richmond, the City of Berea, and Madison County. Project features include a 2,100-seat Broadway capable and quality theatre, a fly system, a 60-foot stage and a configurable blackbox theatre with seating up to 250. It is the second largest theatre of its kind in Kentucky and will host series and special events annually.

 

Project challenges include construction on an active college campus in close proximity to existing facilities and students as well as fundraising efforts during a recession.

D.W. Wilburn served as construction manager at risk for the new Eastern State Hospital replacement facility in Lexington, Kentucky. The project was a collaboration between the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, the University of Kentucky, and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System to offer advanced healthcare, improve economic development and educational research in the area.

 

Project features included a three-story, 273,000-SF main facility with 230 inpatient beds with four separate 13,000-SF residential facilities with a total of 48 beds. Project challenges include large scale, complex construction project with fast track bid packages. The project is LEED Silver.
