D.W. Wilburn served as general contractor for the new Center for Communication Arts at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky. The facility enables cross collaboration, shared resources and interactive learning opportunities for students across multiple communication arts disciplines.

 

Project features included a 120-seat theatre, two multi-media production labs, audio and video editing suites, a professional-grade recording studio, two film-style sound stages (one being a complete black box theatre), interior and exterior backstage for filming, as well as support rooms for these two stages to include dressing rooms, green room, prop storage, set construction shop, and a garage area for the production trailer.

 

Project challenges included construction on an active campus, limited budget to meet programmatic requirements and advanced schedule.
